The BiocardR Malaria Pf/Pan Rapid test is an immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) and Pan malaria species (Plasmodium: P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae) antigen in the human whole Blood specimen.
Trivitron Biocard® Malaria Pf/Pan Rapid Test Kit is a diagnostic tool designed to detect malaria parasites quickly and accurately in human blood samples. It utilizes an immunochromatographic assay, which relies on specific antigen-antibody interactions to produce visible results.
This test kit can detect two important types of malaria parasites: Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) and Pan malaria species. The Pan species include Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malariae. By targeting these specific antigens, the test can identify the presence of different malaria parasites, enabling healthcare professionals to determine the appropriate treatment and management for the infected individual.
The test kit is coated with two distinct types of antibodies to facilitate accurate detection. The first antibody is anti-HRPII (Histidine Rich Protein), which binds to the Plasmodium falciparum antigen. This allows for the specific identification of Plasmodium falciparum, responsible for the most severe form of malaria, and can lead to life-threatening complications if not promptly treated.
The second antibody is anti-PAN PLDH (Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase) which binds to both Plasmodium falciparum and other Pan malaria species. This ensures the detection of a broader range of malaria parasites, including Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malariae. Including the PAN PLDH antibody increases the diagnostic capabilities of the test, providing a comprehensive evaluation of malaria infection.
A small amount of whole blood specimens from the patient is added to the test kit to perform the test. The specimen migrates along the test strip, and if malaria antigens are present in the blood, they will bind to the corresponding antibodies coated on the test lines. This interaction produces a visible line or color change, indicating a positive result for the presence of malaria parasites.
